Oil rig near Shiprock, New Mexico

  1. In today's socially aware environment, the Snowflakes (and the Sierra Club) would rally long and hard to prevent this structure/installation as it would be a blight upon the landscape. The Landscape which is already pretty damned bleak if you ask me, but never mind. It still offends the sensitive who have never been to, or are likely to even want to go to New Mexico, save a quick jet into and out of Taos to admire the art.

  2. My granddad built them out of wood back in the day. I think the steel rigs moved into my area in the late 20's to early 30's. It probably happened sooner at places like this, since they had no timber.
